SUKHUM - The delegation of the Belarusian parliament intends to "thoroughly study the situation in Abkhazia, and establish contacts with Abkhazian legislators, head of the Belarusian delegation Mikhail Rusyi said at a meeting in the Abkhazian parliament.

"Firstly, we're planning to establish contacts with the Abkhazian parliament, and secondly, we were authorized, during a meeting at the Abkhazian government, to conduct talks over launching close economic relations between our countries," Rusyi said in comments on the purpose of the visit to the republic.

The Belarusian parliament has set up three groups to thoroughly study the situation in Abkhazia and South Ossetia, before the Belarusian parliament will debate the issue regarding the recognition of independence of these two republics.

"We must thoroughly study the situation, and, hopefully, we'll be able to accomplish it in two days, especially because the program of our visit includes meetings with the leadership, clerics, and youths," Rusyi said.

This work is necessary, in order to avoid idle talk and accusations of unilateral approach, he added.

The delegation is staying in Abkhazia with the Belarusian president's approval, and all the gathered information will be "objectively reported to the country's leadership and delivered to voters," the lawmaker stressed.

The Belarusian lawmaker also believes the parliament of the country should set up a group for cooperation with the Abkhazian parliament.
